Wesdome Gold Mines is invested in supporting the communities where their employees and families live. That’s why they’ve made a $20,000 donation to Sault Area Hospital Foundation, which will help to purchase the medical equipment used in the care of Wesdome employees, families and friends.

Wesdome currently operates gold mines in both Ontario and Quebec, with their closest property (Eagle River) located 50km west of Wawa. The gold producer is focused on growth, and has recently established an office in Sault Ste. Marie. They believe Sault Ste. Marie residents will continue to fill roles at their organization, and want to show their commitment to the community with this gift.

“Many of our Eagle River employees, along with their families, call Sault Ste. Marie home and rely on Sault Area Hospital for care. In addition, many of our employees and their families from Wawa and the surrounding areas depend on the hospital for specialized care. This gift is our way of supporting Sault Area Hospital’s commitment to providing health care services to our communities,” said Hayley Halsall-Whitney, General Manager at Wesdome Gold Mines.

Wesdome’s donation will have a direct and immediate impact, helping purchase critical medical equipment across the hospital. Many of these pieces have been in place since the hospital first opened in 2011 – which means they are now reaching 10+ years in operation. Together with community gifts, Wesdome’s donation will help the Foundation to replace and upgrade this equipment.

“I’d like to commend Wesdome for their approach to supporting our community. It’s so important that our healthcare professionals have the resources they need to care for local patients,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “We all hope that we never have to visit the hospital, but nothing feels better than knowing Sault Area Hospital is ready – with the equipment to care for us, right here in our community.”

Wesdome Gold Mines are making outstanding care possible with this thoughtful donation. On behalf of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors, Staff and all the patients this donation will impact, thank you for caring for Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District.
