On “GivingTuesday” (Tuesday, December 3rd), Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) and United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2724 are partnering up to raise funds for 30 vital signs monitors. Every donation made, starting on GivingTuesday, will be matched up to $50,000, thanks to USW Local 2724. The group is pushing to realize the full match, “$100k”, in a single day – but they need community support to do it!

GivingTuesday, celebrated the Tuesday following “Black Friday”, started in 2012 as the world’s largest generosity movement. On GivingTuesday, people are encouraged to create positive change. This day celebrates that everyone has something to give, and every act of generosity counts. The generosity of USW Local 2724 will honour the spirit of the day, ensuring each gift to SAHF goes twice as far!

Gifts to SAHF on GivingTuesday will be doubled to fund the purchase of Vital Signs monitors, which are essential tools used every day in every area of the hospital. SAH’s monitors were over 10+ years old and needed to be replaced this year. This monitor can show care providers their patient’s blood pressure, oxygen levels, heart rate and temperature at a glance. Care teams rely on this information to assess patient conditions and provide treatment. Each monitor cost approximately $3,325, and is solely funded through community donations to SAHF. Almost 1/3 of the 123 monitors needed were funded earlier this year, when 10 local construction industry businesses came together for Heart Month (February). It is hoped gifts made on GivingTuesday will help fund the remaining units.

“USW Local 2724 has been a proud partner of Sault Area Hospital Foundation for many years. When we were approached with the option to match gifts for GivingTuesday, it was an easy yes for us. Funding vital signs monitors for our local hospital doesn’t just benefit our union members: it impacts care for our families, friends and community,” shared Bill Slater, President of USW Local 2724.

“USW Local 2724 is proving once again: Steelworkers make great neighbours! We were glad to welcome them as partners to celebrate this GivingTuesday,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director of Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “This is a day to celebrate that everyone has a way to give back to their community. Thanks to USW 2724, your gifts to SAHF, no matter the size, will go twice as far to provide critical medical equipment at our hospital.”

While USW Local 2724 has stepped up to provide this match, community support is needed to realize the full potential of this gift. Community support funds the medical equipment Sault Area Hospital needs to provide outstanding care. Make a gift on GivingTuesday, December 3rd, and help fund this essential equipment for our hospital.

Donations can be made at www.sahfoundation.com/givingtuesday, over the phone at 705-759-3848, and at the Foundation office inside Sault Area Hospital (Mon-Fri 8:30am – 4:30pm).
