Coming off their third consecutive Grand Slam of Curling event win, Team Jacobs took some time last week to visit some of the smallest patients at Sault Area Hospital. The team took a tour of the Sault Area Hospital Women and Children’s Health Department, where they have donated $71,200 over the past 5 years from the Team Jacobs Charity Golf Classic. Each dollar has helped purchase medical equipment that is required to care for local patients, specifically the babies, children and expecting mothers from Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas.
“When we started the golf tournament, we wanted to raise funds to support local charities and initiatives,” says Skip Brad Jacobs. “We love our hometown, and family is important to us – so we looked to support the place where our own kids would be born: Sault Area Hospital.”
During their visit, the team of Sault Ste. Marie locals got to see the impact their annual golf tournament’s funds have had on over 800 babies born each year at Sault Area Hospital.
“Just seeing everything they need to care for these mothers and babies, and hearing that local support is the only way the Foundation can purchase all the equipment… it was eye opening,” says Lead Ryan Harnden. “We knew our donations were going to a good cause, but to see how they’ve benefited the people that live here – it’s the perfect way to give back.”
“Sault Ste. Marie has always supported us. We have had incredible curling careers so far and being able to stay true to our community is special,” says Second EJ Harnden. “Everyone here deserves outstanding healthcare, so we need to do our part to support our local hospital. We want to encourage others to do the same.”
The next stop for Team Jacobs will be the Northern Ontario Men’s Provincial Championships in New Liskeard, ON from Jan. 28 - Feb. 2 where they will compete to represent Northern Ontario at the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier in Kingston, ON.
“We want to wish Team Jacobs the best in all their upcoming events. We will all be cheering you on. Thank you for always putting Sault Ste. Marie first. Your support of Sault Area Hospital has helped us deliver outstanding care to the littlest local patients, and has kept families together here in our community,” says Teresa Martone, Executive Director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
The Team Jacobs Charity Golf Classic is being held July 17th, 2020 at the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club and the hope for the team is that they will be able to hit $100,000 raised at the end of it. More information on the tournament will be made available in the upcoming weeks.
On behalf of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Executive Director and Staff, we would like to thank Team Jacobs for their continued support of Sault Area Hospital.
