On February 28th, Rattan Negi of Etobicoke, ON won a $106,550 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) February 50/50 draw. His lucky number (F-2153266) was drawn electronically, and he was contacted immediately.
Rattan didn’t pick up the phone at first, but he and his wife quickly returned the call when they saw it was from Sault Area Hospital Foundation. When they were told they had won over $100,000, Rattan’s wife Sowang screamed in the background.
Sowang had been buying tickets for Rattan for a few months after hearing about SAHF 50/50 from a friend. “We know it’s a good cause, so when you don’t win it’s still like making a donation,” she said over the phone on Tuesday. Rattan is still in disbelief of his win, saying he plans to use the 6-digit prize for his twin daughters - for travelling and for their savings.
Rattan wasn’t the only winner this month, as February’s Early Bird shared the love. Michael Derasp of Sault Ste. Marie, ON was the lucky winner of a $15,000 prize on February 15th with ticket F-9632307.
“While we love to see Sault Ste. Marie locals win, it’s also exciting to think SAHF 50/50 is receiving support all over Ontario,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
“Dollars from lottery tickets bought across the province are now helping purchase medical equipment to care for our community in Sault Ste. Marie. Rattan and his family saw the importance of supporting local care – and we’re grateful to them, and all of our loyal purchasers.”
