In the recently released SAH Foundation 2022/23 Annual Report, the construction and retrofitting of the $20 million Northway Wellness Centre is noted as a key milestone for healthcare in Algoma.
The construction of this new Residential Withdrawal Management and Safe Beds facility represents an important investment in response to a critical issue for families across the district.
One of SAH Foundation's closest community partners, Algoma Steel, donated an amazing $1 million towards the building of therapeutic outdoor areas within the Northway Wellness Centre. This contribution creates an ideal setting for patients while underscoring Algoma Steel's unwavering commitment to community well-being. Working hand in hand with Algoma Steel and its donor community, the SAH Foundation takes immense pride in facilitating outstanding addictions and mental health care, close to home.
Northway Wellness Centre is set to open later this year. The facility is poised to provide specialist Mental Health and Addictions care, promising a positive impact on the region's healthcare landscape.
Lisa Case, Clinical Director of the Mental Health and Addictions Program at Sault Area Hospital, commented: “Over the past ten years I have seen an increasing need for mental health and addictions care. Thankfully, I have also seen a united effort from our community to meet those needs. Thank you for supporting this vital new facility in Sault Ste. Marie.”
