The Echo Bay Elks Lodge #535 has donated the funds from their popular Catch the Ace fundraising draw to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation!
The donation of $6,404 has helped to purchase a ‘Sit to Stand Trainer’ for the inpatient physiotherapy gym at Sault Area Hospital (SAH).
“We wanted to know that the funds we are donating will stay local and help local patients. We know SAH is where many of us will go for care, but after seeing patients that are working to get home, we knew this was the perfect opportunity to give back. Our Catch the Ace supporters will be proud to know that the proceeds from the draw are going to the hospital we will visit when in need of care.” Myles Reid, Exalted Ruler.
The ‘Sit to Stand Trainer’ helps patients who are trying to regain enough mobility to leave an inpatient ward at SAH and go home. Using weights to counterbalance the patient’s own body weight, the equipment assists patients to accomplish the motions of sitting to standing with reduced stress and strain. This allows the patient to focus more on the movements and strengthening their body. Patients can accomplish more repetitions of the movements before reducing the assistance the trainer is providing. As their strength and mobility increases, they are able to accomplish the movements on their own.
The Echo Bay Elks #535 Catch the Ace draws on select Fridays at 9pm at the Lodge in Echo Bay (96 Church St.). You do not need to be present to win and tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
We at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would like to thank the Echo Bay Elks #535 as well as across Canada for supporting the communities that they live in. It is generosity like this that makes our fundraising efforts possible.
