Today, representatives from Alamos Gold Inc. and Franco-Nevada Corporation (Franco-Nevada) met with representatives from Sault Area Hospital (SAH) and Sault Area Hospital Foundation to celebrate a significant gift toward medical imaging at the hospital.
An estimated $50 million in medical equipment at SAH needs to be replaced on a 10-year cycle, with the majority of that ($14 million) in medical imaging. Equipment at SAH is funded through generous donations to Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
Over 100,000 imaging exams are performed each year at SAH. Care providers rely on these images to locate issues, make diagnoses, and track progress. SAH is the only site in the Algoma District to offer certain advanced medical imaging services – such as MRI and CT Scan. Preservation of advanced imaging capabilities at SAH is critical to offering care close to home, in the Algoma District.
“Across Alamos Gold, we strive to be supportive partners in the communities in which we work. To support local health care delivery in Algoma District, our Island Gold District team is making a vital donation to Sault Area Hospital that will benefit patient care for years to come,” said John A. McCluskey, CEO and President, Alamos Gold.
The gift from Alamos Gold Inc. and Franco-Nevada has been aligned to a future need in the medical imaging department. More details on how their gift will be used will be shared this summer. The gift will be recognized with a donor display in the medical imaging department. This level of recognition is offered to donors who commit a gift of $1M+.
“It’s wonderful to work with partners like Alamos and Franco-Nevada, who recognize the importance of ensuring access to local care,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation. "Imaging plays such a crucial role in care, and these highly sophisticated tools come at a significant cost. Ensuring our teams have the imaging tools to diagnose issues and manage care is critical. Thanks to Alamos and Franco-Nevada, we can continue to invest in high-quality imaging equipment here in the Algoma district.
“On behalf of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors, Staff and the patients this gift will impact – thank you to Alamos Gold and Franco-Nevada; their commitment to community is helping provide the best possible care at Sault Area Hospital.”
