On June 26th at 7 pm, Sault Area Hospital Foundation staff conducted the 31st 5 Car Draw. The draw took place in the Sault Area Hospital Boardroom and was livestreamed on Facebook. 33,271 tickets were sold, raising over $400,000 toward the purchase of a new MRI for the Sault Area Hospital. Both the amount raised and the tickets sold are the highest in the 31-year history of the draw.

This year’s grand prize winners had the choice between 2 separate vehicles in their package or a cash option. All 5 grand prize winners elected to take the cash option due to the flexibility of a cash prize. All 5 winners in the draw have a connection to Sault Ste. Marie.

Grand Prize 1 – Choose Your Road – was won by Keegan Boissoneau of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Choice of: Honda Civic Touring OR Hyundai Tucson AWD OR $25,000. Winning # - 59188.

Keegan has just moved back to Sault Ste. Marie and is now looking to purchase a home for him and his family. This money is going to help with that.

Grand Prize 2 – Choose Your Style – was won by Vicky Wilson of London, ON. Choice of: GMC Terrain SLE AWD OR Toyota Rav4 XLE Hybrid OR $30,000. Winning # - 11086.

Vicky has just moved away from Sault Ste. Marie after living here her whole life and wanted to continue to support our hospital. We are so grateful for her continued support.

Grand Prize 3 – Choose Your Path – was won by Emilio Stanghetta of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Choice of: Hyundai Santa Fe AWD OR Ford Bronco Sport 4x4 OR $35,000. Winning # - 52316.

Emilio and his wife could not believe they won. They have been supporting for a very long time ‘always making sure to get their tickets’. This year, thanks to the help of their daughter, were able to secure the winning ticket online.

Grand Prize 4 – Choose Your Haul – was won by Laurie Eaton of Prince Township, ON. Choice of: Chevy Colorado ZR2 OR Honda Passport Touring OR $50,000. Winning # - 13324.

Laurie was also very skeptical that she could be a winner. She had purchased her tickets in April but after locating her numbers and seeing the match; Laurie was beside herself with joy.

Grand Prize 5 – Choose Your Dream – was won by Taylor Dewling of Aweres Township, ON. Choice of: Toyota 4Runner Venture Ed. OR Ford F150 XTL Supercrew OR $55,000. Winning # - 23682.

Taylor is a Recreation Therapy Assistant at Sault Area Hospital. She is also pursuing her Masters in Kinesiology and the cash she has won this weekend is going to help her pursue her education and career with greater flexibility. It’s a jumpstart for her future.

“This year’s 5 Car Draw was a complete success. We saw record sales, record engagement, and record proceeds raised for a very crucial equipment purchase at our hospital. We came into the draw unsure of how a lottery with this history and of this size would do in this new format, but quickly felt the community behind us. We broke-even in May, before our early bird draw. We saw family members help their loved ones purchase and although our plans for physical sales were set aside to help our province stop the spread of COVID, our supporters stepped up to make sure the 31st 5 Car Draw was the most successful to date” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “We can’t wait to see what next year’s draw will look like.”

The new MRI for Sault Area Hospital is planned to be purchased and installed next year. This head start towards the $3.2 million price tag is going to make the Foundation’s job a little easier. SAH Foundation is the primary source of funding for medical equipment at Sault Area Hospital, like the MRI, and do so through community support in donations, events, lotteries and much more.

Special congratulation goes out to the group of Ugo Bruni, Danielle Marchand, Krystle Nelson and Jacob Tomas who won the Early Bird draw of $10,000 back in May. Their lucky number of 17017 was drawn just after Mother’s Day and they shared the prize.
