Social Media Policy

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) has dedicated resources to establish an online and social media presence to communicate more efficiently with donors, supporters and those interested in our organization. Our accounts will be listed below. All content posted by SAHF has been generated and approved by SAHF staff. Our accounts are public and monitored daily for quality assurance.

Sault Area Hospital Foundation

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) social media pages represent SAHF first and foremost. All interactions are required to represent the organization in a suitable fashion. The context of all interactions will fall within the goals and values of SAHF and respect all parties involved.

Any posts, responses or comments made on behalf of our accounts are posted exclusively by SAHF staff and do not necessarily represent the views of Sault Area Hospital. SAHF and the Sault Area Hospital are separate organizations. We share a common goal in ensuring our community has the excellent healthcare it deserves. SAHF does so by funding equipment purchases, with the help of our donors, so the healthcare professionals of the Sault Area Hospital can provide excellence in care.

 

Privacy

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation is committed to protecting the privacy of our donors, staff and the patients of Sault Area Hospital. At no time will SAHF post personal health, employment or financial information, contact information, or any information about family members. With the consent of the individual or family, SAHF publishes selected stories and profiles which include personal information about some of our donors, staff or patients. In every case, SAHF first contacts the individual or family and obtains consent to publish their story anywhere.

Individual users are responsible for protecting their own privacy and the privacy of others when using and participating in our or any social media presence. If a user chooses to interact in any of the SAHF social media presences, SAHF asks that no interactions include personal information such as company/employer names, phone numbers or email addresses in the content posted. Posts that identify SAHF donors or staff, or Hospital patients or staff, may be removed. SAHF and Hospital employees who choose to comment or post on social media accounts, either organization-run or personal, are bound by confidentiality agreements and by the terms of their employment to protect patient privacy.

SAHF social media pages are publicly accessible. User interactions may be publicly visible, depending on the users’ privacy settings. Privacy and the retention of information on social media sites is also governed by the terms and conditions set out by the privacy policies governing the specific social media site being utilized.

 

Content

Using the settings provided by the social media providers, we limit the user’s ability to interact publically on our accounts. This is used to protect our organization and any of our followers. Due to the nature of the SAHF social media pages, complaints and any comments that have a negative tone or message are strictly monitored.

Complaints and negative content, if directed towards the SAHF, will be removed and the individual will be consulted via private message. A phone number or email address will be asked for and the conversation will take place outside of social media to help ensure the donor or individual’s problem is resolved. Issues are to be dealt with privately, not publically. This is to ensure any confidential information is not exposed. Any issues can be directed to foundation@sah.on.ca .

Complaints and negative comments regarding the Sault Area Hospital and any type of healthcare or patient information will be removed and the individual will be asked to contact Planning, Quality & Risk Department -Patient Relations (patientrelations@sah.on.ca or 705-759-3807) with their complaint.

Repeat offenses will result in blocking of the individual. Contact can be made outside of social media to explain the situation and resolve it before the individual will be unblocked.

Any explicit or inappropriate behavior is to be removed and the individual blocked immediately. Any deeply inappropriate or any content which leads SAHF staff to believe the individual might be in danger (death threats or suicidal content) is to be directed to the police immediately.

Inappropriate contents include:

•             Express racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting, or life-threatening messages;

•             Are aggressive, coarse, violent, obscene, or pornographic in tone;

•             Are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or otherwise abusive;

•             Are not sent by the author and/or are put forward for advertising purposes;

•             Are unintelligible, or otherwise inconsistent with the purposes of our online presence;

•             Are repetitive or spamming of threads;

•             Reveal confidential or personal information.

Any user acting contrary to these rules may be temporarily or permanently excluded from posting or commenting on our social media pages.

 

Images & Publishing

SAHF will not claim ownership to any images or stories not owned by SAHF. Any images, stories or content used on the SAHF social media sites will be owned or permitted for use by the owner.
