Rob Battisti, CPA, CMA, Treasurer

Rob Battisti is the Director of Finance of Resorts, Development & Projects with the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation in Sault Ste. Marie. Rob began his involvement with the Sault Area Hospital in July 2010 as the Director of Finance. Rob’s academic background includes a Bachelors of Accounting with Honors from Brock University, a Masters of Business Administration from Lake Superior State University and is a Certified Management Accountant. As a community volunteer Rob has served as Treasurer on the boards of Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre and Safe Communities and currently coaches Youth Boys’ Basketball at the YMCA.




Cheryl Pavoni, Secretary

Having worked with the Foundation since 1988, in all areas of fundraising, Cheryl is the veteran of the team. As the Executive Director, she is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a comprehensive development program that ensures the Foundation maximizes its fundraising potential. In 2007, Cheryl, along with the Foundation team and an enthusiastic group of volunteers, completed the largest fundraising campaign the city of Sault Ste. Marie and District has ever seen raising $26.6 million to equip the new Hospital. Cheryl is very proud to have been part of this legacy that will live on for generations to come.


Barry Bailey Jr.


Barry Bailey

Barry Bailey Jr. has sat on the Board of Directors since 2014.  He has strong local ties, completing his post-secondary education at Sault College, and has overseen operations at his family's local business since 2005.  Barry has been directly involved with numerous boards within his industry and looks forward to utilizing his skills to assist in making decisions for the betterment of Sault Area Hospital's staff, patients and our community as a whole.



Maria Coccimiglio


Maria Coccimiglio

Maria Coccimiglio has been a pharmacist at Sault Area Hospital since 1998. She is a Professional Practice Leader for the Pharmacy Department. She also is Adjunct Faculty with both Sault College’s Pharmacy Technician Program and the University of Waterloo Pharmacy Program. She completed a commitment on the Northeast LHIN’s Health Professional Advisory Committee in 2015, as a representative for the Ontario College of Pharmacists and also volunteers on the Parent Council at St Francis French Immersion School.

Maria graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and has been Green-belt Certified in LEAN Healthcare.



Dr. Philip Dopp


Dr. Philip Dopp

Dr. Philip Dopp is an Anesthesiologist and the Chief of Anesthesia at the Sault Area Hospital.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph and an MD degree from the University of Toronto, he completed a Family Medicine and Anesthesia residency through the Northern Ontario Medical Program (McMaster affiliated) in Thunder Bay.  In 2005 he started his practice in Sault Ste. Marie.  He is also a Lecturer in the Department of Anesthesia at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.  His involvement with the Foundation began in 2013 as co-chair of Ski the Trails, an event which allows him to enjoy his passion for cross country skiing while taking steps to better health care within the community. 

He also volunteers as a coach for the Jackrabbits ski program offered through the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club.


Ron Gagnon


Ron Gagnon

Ron holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University and is a Certified Management Accountant. He is the Secretary to the Board of Directors and is a member of all SAH’s Board committees. A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ron joined SAH in April 2001 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer accountable for Finance, Information Technology, Logistics, Clinical Support Services and Environmental Services. He also served as Interim President & CEO in 2004 and 2006. Prior to joining the SAH, he spent six years as a senior executive with the largest water services organization in Canada. Ron is a past member of the Innovation Centre Board of Directors and the Sault College Board of Governors.






Velma McClelland 

Upon retiring from ON Hydro, Velma began volunteering with the community and has been doing so for over twenty years.  Her skills and abilities have been well utilized as a SAH volunteer within their Emergency Departments, Day Surgery, Orthopaedic Clinics, Treasurer of the two Coffee Kiosks and General Hospital Gift Shop and now within the ADCP Cancer Clinic as a Navigator and Chemo suite attendant.

She is an active member of the SAH Volunteer Association Executive performing the duties as the  Treasurer as well as having spent four years in the areas of Finance and Registration with the provincial HAAO.  Velma fully participates in most fundraising  events sponsored by SAH Volunteer Association and SAH Foundation of which she is also a board member.  

Outside of volunteering at the SAH, she also takes time to help out at St. Vincent Place and in the kitchen at Bethel Bible Chapel for the Coffee Hour and Bible Study.

Amy Reich


Amy Wheeler Reich

Amy Wheeler Reich is the Manager of Joseph A Reich Medical Professional Corporation. She graduated from Carleton University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science w/ Honours in Biology and Biotechnology and graduated from Queens University in 1994 with a Masters of Science in Biology. Amy and her family moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1999 and decided to call it home. She has held many positions in community organizations including the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club since 2008, where she is currently the VP of Programs. She also holds a seat on the High Performance Committee of Cross Country Ontario representing the Northern Ontario District. Amy is excited to continue to give back to the community her family has grown to love and that has become their hometown.
